Emel is situated at 21 Road, Z Close in Festac Town, Lagos, Nigeria. The hospital was declared open on the 9th of December 1988 by the then Honourable Minister of Health of Nigeria, Prof. Olikoye Ransome-Kuti. It is the first private hospital in Lagos, Nigeria to be designated “Baby Friendly Hospital” by the Federal Ministry of Health in 1993.

Dr Olufemi Mobolaji-Lawal is the founder and Chief Medical Director. He was formerly a Consultant Paediatrician at the Ikeja General Hospital (now Lagos State University Teaching Hospital). Dr Mrs Margaret Mobolaji-Lawal a public health specialist physician is also a director of the hospital.
